Likoma Girls Arise
The Likoma District Education department have brought to GSCF attention that girls of Likoma are facing many difficulties in their home and school lives which are preventing them from getting the best possible chances in life and education.
Some of these challenges include disproportionate home responsibilities, arranged marriages, early pregnancies; assignments that are not age appropriate, inappropriate proposals from men and teachers, among others. The Likoma Girls Arise program aims to involve various community stakeholders including Mothers Union, parents, teachers, Village Chiefs and the health department to clearly define the rights of girls and women, establish role models, to provide the support systems girls need and which empower women to report abuse, to promote and protect girls and their rights.
