At the center of this initiative is the Mulendema Demonstration Farm, which in 2024 trained nearly 150 farmers, mostly women, in organic farming techniques such as composting, crop rotation, and natural pest control. Though small, the farm’s high impact has underscored the need for soil restoration and garden expansion across the region.
By the end of 2024, seven additional dams have been completed with support from various partners. These now supply water to two active communal gardens, funded by WWF, providing communities with the resources needed to grow food year-round, even in dry seasons. Another seven gardens are under construction and set to launch by the end of the 2025 rainy season, representing major progress in enhancing climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods. Creating a few dams, won’t create the system change we are aiming for. Therefore, there is a long-term plan to install 35 dams.
