Conservation Lower Zambezi: Environmental Education Program (EEP)

Green Safaris Conservation Foundation is proud to support the work of Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ), a leading conservation organization protecting the wildlife and ecosystems of Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park and surrounding areas. CLZ combines law enforcement support, community outreach, and education to promote sustainable coexistence between people and nature.

A cornerstone of this collaboration is the Environmental Education Program (EEP), which introduces conservation principles to schoolchildren in communities bordering the park. Through school visits, workshops, and outdoor learning experiences, the program helps young people understand the importance of biodiversity, human-wildlife coexistence, and environmental stewardship.
In 2024, the EEP reached 113 students in Chiawa, while broader outreach extended to 71 schools in the region. A Teacher Training Workshop brought together 24 educators from Luangwa and Chinyunyu, equipping them to carry forward conservation education in their own classrooms. Green Safaris’ $25,000 contribution supported the costs of teaching materials, logistics, and program coordination—ensuring CLZ could continue to expand this impactful work.
CLZ also strengthens community engagement through Rubatano, its annual community sports day. Rubatano—meaning “Unity” in Goba—brings together netball and football teams from villages across the Lower Zambezi. While the teams compete for prizes and the title of best in the valley, the day is about more than sport: it fosters meaningful connections between communities, conservation lodges, DNPW, and other key stakeholders. The 2025 theme, “Living with Wildlife,” includes educational stands on coexistence with species ranging from fish to elephants.

Together with CLZ, we’re investing in environmental education and community-led conservation—laying the groundwork for a future in which both people and wildlife can thrive.
