In 2023, the organization launched its elective placement program to raise sustainable funding for scholarships. For every international medical student hosted in Malawi, Medic to Medic can fund a scholarship for a local student. Green Safaris Foundation supports this initiative on Likoma Island, providing accommodation at Mango Drift Lodge and contributing to daily costs.
From April to May 2025, final-year UK medical students Ffion, Grace, and Amy completed their electives at St. Peter’s Hospital, working five days a week in clinical care and leading impactful community health projects. Their initiatives included:
– Distributing 150 period poverty kits to girls on the island
– Providing 520 mosquito nets to students at Likoma Secondary School
– Conducting first aid training (CPR, recovery position, choking response) at four local schools
– Conducting a malaria audit, which showed a 12.5% prevalence—above the national average –
and targeting future improvements through prevention.
